It was a brutal, savage, cruel, nasty, atrocious, (call it what you want) weekend in Port Elizabeth, to say the least, and it was much worse than that! The rain, wind and cold had definitely made a pack to bring us the worst weekend weather-wise ever. Starting a race in the pouring rain is really not funny. Apart from the conditions the riders also had to deal with visors that are steaming up, riding on wets, which they are not used to, and rain dripping down your spine… Really!!!
But race, we raced. And again a big congratulation to Sven Grüne (66) who won both races in Port Elizabeth, and still leading the Overall and Veterans championships!
But the hero of the day was the superbalistic Jonty Collard (#11)!! Can this man ride in the rain!! Not sure if it’s his motocross experience or if he is just a rain-natural! Well done Jonty!! His best finish ever since he joined the ZX10 Masters Cup. And a well-deserved “Rider of the day” trophy for Jonty and a second place in his Class. Another rider finishing with his personal best, is Ian Harwood (#24), the Bridgestone man, finishing 3rd in his Class.
Some unfortunate incidents for Ruan Oberholster (#34), Wayne Spicer (#90) and Michael Smit (#49) and Jason Lamb (#46) resulted in them not finishing the day.
The results for Port Elizabeth were as follow:
|Overall||Sven Grüne (#66)||Jade Gudzeit (#20)||Graeme van Breda (#1)|
|Masters||Jade Gudzeit (#20)||Jonty Collard (#11)||Jaco Gous (#43)|
|Veterans||Sven Grüne (#66)||Graeme van Breda (#1)||Ian Harwood (#24)|
|Pieter de Vos (#17)||Johan le Roux (#44)||Teddy Brooke (#93)|
On behalf of all the members of the ZX10 Masters Cup we would like to thank our sponsors: Bridgestone, Kawasaki, Red Square and Algoa Motorsport Club for hosting the event in Port Elizabeth.
We will see you at the Big Z (Zwartkops) on 18 August!!
Lynette and Sifiso (#63)
